Veneers

Veneers are unique thin onlays placed on the front teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers are used to correct the shape, color, and size of teeth, as well as to correct small enamel defects (chips, cracks). It is a popular cosmetic dentistry procedure that helps improve a patient's smile.

Modern dental veneers are thin, strong plates, 0.2 to 0.5 mm thick, made of ceramic or composite materials. Veneers simultaneously solve two problems: they hide the natural imperfections of the tooth rows and perform a protective function. To achieve maximum aesthetic effect, it is recommended to install at least 6-10 veneers on the front teeth on both jaws.

Before the procedure, the specialist examines the patient's oral cavity, identifying contraindications. The procedure of veneers installation consists of four main stages. First, the top layer of tooth enamel is removed from the front wall of the teeth. Then an individual impression of the teeth is made, according to which the veneers are made. Next, the plates are bonded to the teeth using a special cement that hardens under the influence of light. Finally, contour correction and bite correction is performed. After veneers are placed, patients receive smooth, white teeth.

The main disadvantage of veneers is the irreversibility of the procedure. This is due to the fact that the tooth enamel does not recover after grinding and if the veneers are removed, the teeth will have to be restored or covered with crowns. The service life of composite veneers is 8-10 years, with regular preventive procedures including dental cleaning and polishing every 6 months. Ceramic veneers are more resistant to discoloration and can last more than 10 years with the above procedures.
