Caries treatment

Tooth decay is an oral disease caused by demineralization of the hard tissues of the tooth due to exposure to acids produced by bacteria as a result of the metabolism of sugars.

In dentistry, there is perhaps no disease better known than tooth decay. Carious lesions can penetrate deep into the tooth and cause various complications. The disease is insidious and in its early stages does not manifest itself in any way. Patients become concerned only when food enters the cavity, causing severe pain. It has been established that the success of caries treatment depends largely on the stage of the disease: the earlier it is detected, the greater the chances of preventing further tooth decay.

There are several stages of tooth decay development:

  • Initial caries.
  • Superficial decay
  • Medium decay
  • Deep decay

Treating tooth decay usually involves removing the affected tooth tissue and filling the cavity with a filling. In the initial stages of decay, fluoride treatments to strengthen the enamel are sometimes sufficient. In cases of deep tooth decay, entodontic (intra-root) treatment or tooth extraction may be necessary.

To prevent the development of tooth decay, it is necessary to undergo regular preventive examinations by a specialist.
